Nicola Adams is guaranteed an Olympics medal after impressively winning her flyweight quarter-final this afternoon.

The 29-year-old, who boxes out of Haringey Police Community Club, was in command from the outset and secured her place in the last four with a 16-7 win over Bulgaria’s Stoyka Petrova.

India’s Chungneijang Mery Kom Hmangte now stands between the Leeds-based fighter and at shot at gold, with the semi-final scheduled to take place at 1.45pm on Wednesday.

Adams has proven her pedigree over a number of years, having won three consecutive silver medals at the World Championships as well as European Championship gold last year.
