Former England chief Franco Baldini looks set to turn down a switch to Spurs as Chairman Daniel Levy continues his pursuit of a continental club structure.

Levy has long wanted to appoint a director of football to allow the coach to focus on team affairs and Baldini was thought to top the Tottenham chief's wish-list.

Baldini is known to get on well with Villas-Boas and possesses a wide knowledge of European football.

But the former England man wants to stay in Italy and continue his work at Roma, the club he rejoined in July 1011.
