Gunners stopper keen to remain at Emirates

Manuel Almunia will consider his future if Arsenal are successful in their pursuit of a goalkeeper Manuel Almunia will consider his future if Arsenal are successful in their pursuit of a goalkeeper

ARSENAL'S Manuel Almunia has admitted he will seek assurances over his future with the club should a new goalkeeper arrive before the end of the transfer window.

The Gunners have been continually linked with a move for Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer and are expected to table an improved £2.5million bid this week, having had an initial offer rejected prior to the World Cup.

Almunia, who has come under intense pressure following several blunders last season, admitted he would seek talks with manager Arsene Wenger if somebody else was brought in.

“To be honest, it is so difficult to concentrate because Arsenal is a big club and speculation is always in the news and everywhere,” he told London's Evening Standard.

“The only thing I can do is keep working because I have a contract here and I have to do what the manager wants from me. I have not spoken to him. If somebody comes in, I will have to talk about my future at Arsenal. That is it. I cannot talk now, because the talking would be for nothing.

“I have to work and if one day I am not good for Arsenal, I will talk. That is no problem. I am very happy here.”
