Andre Villas-Boas believes his side deserved their last-minute equaliser against Manchester United and said his team could even have won the match.

Spurs went behind when Robin Van Persie headed in on 25 minutes but Clint Dempsey rescued a point for his team in a game they dominated in terms of possession.

Speaking about Dempsey’s last-gasp leveller, Villas-Boas said: “It was important for us, we dominated the whole game - possession, shots. We controlled the game, played well and deserved to win to be fair but United had most of the opportunities and we were chasing, which against them is very difficult.”

United appeared to have seen off a second half onslaught from Tottenham but Dempsey was on hand to slot home from the six yard line after De Gea failed to clear.

The equaliser was no more than Tottenham deserved in a dramatic encounter in the snow at White Hart Lane that leaves them in fourth place, four points clear of Everton.

Villas-Boas said: “We had 68 per cent possession, 15 shots and we should have gone out with the win.

“I think it is down to the boys and the spirit they’ve embraced this season. It gives you a boost, playing so well this season and getting a point in the last minute, but we have two away games and we want to get back to winning ways so we will now concentrate on that.”
