Young Tottenham Hotspur striker Shaquile Coulthirst has joined Southend United on a season-long loan deal.

Hackney-born Coulthirst joined Spurs' academy in July 2011 and then signed professional forms in April 2012.

The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for Spurs in last season's Europa League game against Anzhi Makhachkala, playing the final 12 minutes as a substitute.

In January this year, the England Under-19 international went on loan to League One Leyton Orient but returned to White Hart Lane a month later having made only two appearances, scoring one goal.

Coulthirst ended his 2013/14 campaign on loan at Torquay United where he scored two goals in five league appearances as the Gulls were relegated out of the Football League.

Speaking to the club's website, Coulthirst said:“There was some interest from other clubs, but I know Southend are one of the biggest in this division so it was an easy decision for me to come here on loan.

“I had a couple of loan spells last season and know what this division is all about, so I can’t wait to start at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.”
