Tottenham Hotspur are on alert after Barcelona made enforcer Alex Song available for loan, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 26-year-old former Arsenal midfielder, who featured for Cameroon at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, has struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp since his move to Barcelona in 2012.

It is believed that Song favours a return to English football but he has drawn considerable interest from Turkish side Galatasaray and some sides in Serie A.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin during the transfer window; however a move to White Hart Lane has been in doubt for some time with the Saints clearly unwilling to let him leave.

If Pochettino is denied a reunion with the player he managed at St Mary’s then they may turn their attention to Song, despite his obvious connections with bitter rivals Arsenal.

Barcelona have confirmed they are willing to let him leave permanently for £8m but the proposition of a loan has also caught the intrigue of Everton and Manchester United.
