Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino said that it was his side’s “compact and aggressive” style which helped them draw at Arsenal.

Nacer Chadli scored his fourth league goal of the season to give Spurs the lead but they were pegged back with 15 minutes to go by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to draw 1-1.

Pochettino’s side, who lost last week to West Brom at White Hart Lane, believes that his side’s counter attacking system enabled Spurs to get a result.

He said: “I think it was a good point, Arsenal managed the ball and the possession and our position was to be compact, aggressive and be quick to surprise arsenal when we get the ball.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger accused Pochettino’s side of constant “time wasting” however the Spurs boss felt that was not the case.

He said: “I don’t know, it is difficult to analyse this. We tried to play our way and to our plan but this is football.

“I think our mentality was to competed with a big team like arsenal. We have only been in charge three months and today is the start of the delivery for our philosophy.”

Following his stunning strike in the week, midfielder Ryan Mason was handed his Premier League debut and showed his capabilities with an accomplished performance.

The Spurs manager expressed his happiness for the 23-year-old saying: “He played well. The Premier League is never easy; it is good for him and the team.

My decision [to start him] was based on the information that we saw in the training ground and if we decide to play Mason we know that he was ready to play.”

Spurs sit two points behind their North London rivals and face Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
