Ten-man Haringey Borough moved four points clear in the Essex Premier Division after battling to a 2-1 win at Hullbridge Sports on Saturday.

Hullbridge Sports went into the weekend fixture in second place as they faced the league leaders in an important clash.

Boro got off to an ideal start after just two minutes when they opened the scoring through Walid Matata’s close-range effort after a pass from Darrell Cox.

The hosts equalised after 27 minutes through a fierce strike from Michael Edgar.

But Boro regained the lead shortly afterwards when Joe O’Cearuill nodded home after the keeper had parried a shot.

The visitors found themselves up against it when they were reduced to ten men after half an hour.

Jorge Djassi-Sambu was shown a red card for a mis-timed challenge which left Boro in trouble against their opponents.

Hullbridge Sports piled on the pressure with the extra man in their favour.

But a strong defensive performance and excellent keeping from Ashley Harris ensured Boro claimed their ninth win in ten league games.

However the team were knocked out of the London Senior Cup on Tuesday after a 4-3 defeat at Erith Town.

The leaders resume league action this weekend with a match against Ilford at Coles Park.
