Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino admits that his strikers need to “share the minutes” following a good performance from Harry Kane.

Kane put in an impressive performance and netted his seventh goal of the season against Brighton in the Capital One Cup fourth round after Erik Lamela opened the scoring in a 2-0 win.

Calls have been made for Kane to start in the Premier League but the Spurs manager would not be drawn into the matter.

He said: “I think he will the share minutes with strikers like Soldado and Adebayor, all have the opportunity to play. We need to understand that we are in many competitions, we need to share the minutes.

“I think we put out a strong side, you demand me to put Harry Kane in every game. We have a strong squad, Soldado and Harry Kane, we are in a lot of competitions, all are difficult.”

Pochettino changed his side at half time with Lamela coming on for captain-for-the-night Aaron Lennon after the Spurs boss said that the winger felt a tight hamstring.

He added: “It was a good performance, we created a lot of chances and played very well, I think we needed this victory. It is good to feel the victory again.”

Tottenham will face Newcastle, who beat them 2-1 on Sunday, at White Hart Lane for a place in the semi-finals.

“Yes the draw is difficult, we wanted to be in the quarter final and I am happy that we are through” said Pochettino.
