Haringey Borough were dumped out of the FA Vase in the first round after losing on penalties in their replay at Northampton Spencer on Tuesday night.

After 120 minutes neither side could find the net and it came down to spot-kicks.

Walid Matata’s penalty struck the crossbar and with Northampton scoring all five it was the hosts that made it through.

It was a missed opportunity for Boro after their opponents finished the game with nine men following a sending off and picked up an injury after all their substitutes were used.

Northampton had the better chances during the 90 minutes but Boro were let off the hook by the woodwork three times.

In the first match on Saturday, Haringey drew 1-1 despite a sending off in the first half for Dean Fenton after a late tackle.

An early goal gave the visitors the lead before Daniel Aristidou’s equaliser forced a replay.

Haringey travel to London Bari in the Essex Senior League this weekend.
