Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor insists he remains happy to stay at Spurs after chairman Daniel Levy blocked a deadline day loan move.

The 30-year-old Togolese had been granted a loan move away from White Hart Lane, with Premier League rivals Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United understood to be the front-runners for his services.

However, a move failed to materialise on Monday evening and the former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City striker will now remain with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Adebayor said: "Everything happened in the last 48 hours although the window was open for a month. The club decided to send me out on loan which I was pleased with.

“There were five good clubs who were interested and I narrowed that down to three and then one that I wanted to go. But Mr Levy was against that because it was a rival club.

"So I am staying here, and I am happy to stay at the club and do my job.”

The striker has scored twice in 11 starts this season for Spurs and has fallen behind Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Adebayor thanked head coach Pochettino for allowing him to return to Africa in December for personal reasons.

"I was out of action for a year but it’s only for a week or ten days that I went back home to sort out some family issues," he explained.

"I went to Africa to talk to some people I needed to talk to – then I came back but then I was sick and injured as well. For some people who don’t see me on the TV for long it must seem longer – but it only took me a week or so to go home and sort out my problem."
