Tottenham Hotspur players showed character and big personality to fight back from two goals down to draw with West Ham United according to Mauricio Pochettino.

The Spurs boss saw his side score two goals in the final ten minutes - first Danny Rose and then a late Harry Kane goal after his penalty was saved by Adrian.

Spurs had been sloppy up until the final ten minutes conceding two goals to the visitors first from Cheikou Kouyate and then Diafra Sakho.

Pochettino hailed his side’s spirit to come back from two goals down and revealed he was ‘confident’ they would come back.

He said: “We are always confident [of coming back] because we trust our players and never give up and this is important that we show character and big personality today. We showed good energy in the last 20 minutes.

“This is a difficult point and when it is difficult to play like today and I am proud of our players.

“We started very well at the start to score but after it was difficult to play, the team was a little bit nervous in the way we managed the ball. It was difficult to find the way to play.”

The Spurs boss revealed he was ‘hard at half time’ on his side as he threw on Christian Eriksen for Moussa Dembele in a bid to create more opportunities.

In truth, Spurs were flat for large swathes of the game but can take confidence in rescuing yet more points at the death. They have won six games with last minute goals.

The Spurs manager added: “They create some chances in counter attack and have very fast players. I think we are better than them, but 2-2 it is an important result because we were 2-0 down in the last ten minutes and maybe one or two minutes more it is 3-2 to us because we push hard.”

Yet it was more dropped points at home for Spurs who have let slip 18 points at White Hart Lane compared to rivals Manchester United dropping eight at Old Trafford and Arsenal dropping nine at the Emirates respectively.

The side has also struggled at playing in the Europa League, losing to Newcastle, Stoke and West Brom and drawing now with West Hamm all at home after playing in midweek.

Pochettino said: “I think that we made a big effort against Fiorentina, it is important to know that. But it is true in general we are disappointed that today is only one point. I think that we shoot 21 or 22 times and created many chances.”

Spurs now travel to Fiorentina before their Capital One Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley next Sunday.
