Goals for Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose meant that Tottenham Hotspur ended their home campaign with a win over Hull City.

The Belgian rounded the keeper after a neat through-ball from Erik Lamela and Danny Rose volley home just past the hour mark in a match lacking in quality.

Mauricio Pochettino brought back Danny Rose, who had dyed his hair red for the occasion, for Vlad Chiriches after the Romanian was sent off at Stoke last weekend.

Stoke dished out a pummelling to the lilywhites last weekend. Spurs have looked like a side already on the beach since their defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final in March, winning just four of 10.

There is no doubt Spurs’ home form has been their downfall this season, losing six, the joint worst in the top half and conceding 24 goals, only six teams have let in the same or more.

The opening 20 minutes provided no indication that there would be goals on the menu. On the contrary, the home side’s build up play was sluggish, leaving their boss infuriated at every loss of possession.

Nikica Jelavic thundered a six-yard shot onto the top of the crossbar as Spurs failed to clear their lines from an Ahmed Elmohamady cross.

The Croatian forward then almost produced a moment of magic as he overhead kicked his shot just over the bar.

A low drive from Harry Kane across the box could not find anyone was Tottenham’s best opportunity in the opening half hour.

Spurs faced the prospect of missing out on Europe altogether which may not be a bad thing, depending on which Spurs supporter you talk to.

Indeed, a season without the gruelling prospect of Thursday night and Sunday afternoon football would mean less matches for Pochettino’s side and potentially a better shot of finishing fourth.

Yet the winner of the Europa League now gets a coveted place in the Champions League and finishing outside the European places this season would see Spurs’ number of avenues into Europe’s biggest stage cut in half.

A moment of quality gave Spurs the lead, the first glimpse we had seen all afternoon.

Lamela fed Chadli through with a delightful pass and the Belgian winger was able to hold off his man, round Steve Harper and slot home.

There was only one winner after the deadlock was broken and Spurs doubled their advantage just after the hour mark.

A wonderful chip over the visitor’s defence by Ryan Mason found Rose latched onto the pass and volleyed it beyond Harper.

The fans sang “he’s got red hair but we don’t care” as Rose got his third of the season, more than Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor combined.

It looked like it would not be Hull’s day after a scramble in the six yard box saw two shots cleared off the line and then Dame N’Doye’s shot go narrowly wide.
