Haringey boxer Nicola Adams is targeting a historic treble at the European Games this month.

The 32-year-old was the first woman boxer to win Olympic and Commonwealth gold medals.

Now her sights are set on more glory at the inaugural European Games in Azerbaijan, starting this weekend.

Adams will carry the flag for Great Britain at tonight’s opening ceremony.

The boxer told BBC Sport: “It’s another chance to make history.”

Adams suffered disappointment recently when she withdrew from the English National Championships following a break-in in April.

Haringey Police Boxer Adams said: “It was really disappointing not to box because I didn't want to let all of the fans down, but I just didn't feel right at the time.

“But I’m now really excited about the European Games and it’s the main focus for the year so I’ll be putting everything into it.”

The European Games is an Olympic style event featuring 20 sports spread of two weeks.

Adams is part of a 160-group of Team GB competing at the competition with some sports offering direct or indirect qualification to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The boxer made history when she won Olympic gold in London three years ago.

Adams followed this up last year in Glasgow when the boxer won gold in the Commonwealth Games.
