Speculation is mounting Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Everton midfielder James McCarthy to White Hart Lane, with a potential fee of £20 million being touted.

McCarthy, 24, has spent two successful years at Goodison Park since moving for £13 million from Wigan Athletic in 2013, but reports emerged last month that he was unhappy at not being offered an improved contract.

The Irishman still has three years left on his current deal.

The Daily Mirror suggests that even if Everton are unwilling to sell for just cash, Spurs might try and tempt them into letting him go if they offer Aaron Lennon as part of the deal, who had a successful loan spell with the Toffees last season.

McCarthy has appeared 27 times for the Republic of Ireland national side.
