Tottenham Hotspur outcast Emmanuel Adebayor could be set for a reunion with former boss Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa.

Adebayor has struggled since his permanent move from Manchester City three years ago, only finding the net 18 times in the Premier League, having scored 17 in the previous season alone whilst on loan at White Hart Lane.

Last year in particular was a wretched time for the 31-year-old. Beset with personal problems off the field and finding himself a long way down the pecking order, he only made 13 league appearances and failed to start a game in the new year.

Aston Villa, searching for a replacement for Belgian striker Christian Benteke, who seems destined to move away in the near future, represents the most likely destination for the Togolese striker.

Villa boss Sherwood is said to be eager for a reunion with Adebayor, whom he coached while at Spurs in 2013/14. That was Adebayor’s most fruitful season for the club, netting 11 goals in 21 league games.

Whilst the striker’s £100,000-per-week wages might be a stumbling block for the Villans, the Daily Mail claim Tottenham are willing to pay a percentage of his wages to get him off the books.

Should Spurs fail to find a buyer, Adebayor is likely to be consigned to the reserves for the final year of his contract.
