West Bromwich Albion have revealed they have turned down a transfer request from Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino, a week after confirming they had rejected a bid from Spurs.

The 22-year-old striker has been subject of continued interest throughout the transfer window from Spurs but Albion are determined to hold onto their prized asset.

A short statement on the club's website read:

"West Bromwich Albion have received a written transfer request from Saido Berahino.

"The request has been rejected and the club’s position remains unchanged from that outlined in the statement from chairman Jeremy Peace of August 18.

"There will be no further comment."

Last Tuesday the Baggies released an initial statement revealing they had rejected a bid from Spurs for the striker, stating they would not let the England Under-21 international leave The Hawthorns.

Chairman Jeremy Peace said last week: “We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told Daniel Levy.

“I know we are living in an age where no club can say ‘never’ about the possibility of selling a player.

“However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.

“We are going forward with Saido very much in our plans and still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad.”

Whether or not Spurs will return with another offer for the highly-rated forward remains to be seen but by submitting a transfer request, Berahino has made clear his determination to leave West Brom.

Berahino, who did not feature on Sunday as Albion were beaten 3-2 at home by Chelsea, scored 14 Premier League goals for the Baggies last term.

The Burundi-born striker was called into Roy Hodgson's England squad but remained an unused substitute in a friendly win over Scotland and a European Championships qualifying success over Slovenia.
