Tottenham Hotspur right-back DeAndre Yedlin is reportedly close to joining Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.

The American made just one appearance for Spurs last season after joining from MLS side Seattle Sounders in the summer and looks set to make the switch to the north east.

The Black Cats’ new signing Adam Matthews, who is also a right-back, is currently out injured and it is thought Yedlin would fill the spot in the meantime.

Should Yedlin make a move north though, he would be unable to play in Sunderland’s next match, against Spurs, at the Stadium of Light.

Mauricio Pochettino added right-back Kieran Trippier to his squad earlier this summer to offer competition for Kyle Walker, which would leave the door open for Yedlin to depart on loan.

The 22-year-old has made 23 appearances for the USA and played at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
