Friendly defeat for Borough

4:02pm Monday 4th August 2008

Haringey Borough 1 Royston Town 3 . . .

Pre-season friendly . . .

Initially things went well for Borough, although they had to survive an early scare when a Royston striker was tripped as he burst into the area, only for the penalty to be drilled just wide of the post.

A powerful header from Joe Seabrook who met a cross from the right around the edge of the goal area put Borough ahead but The Crows equalised before the interval with a flicked header at the near post from a corner kick.

Royston took the lead early in the second half again when a corner was not dealt with and was poked home from close range in the ensuing scramble.

A top drawer diving save by the visiting keeper denied Borough what looked like a certain equaliser as they pressed forward but it was Royston who had the last word when a deep cross from the right was met at the far post by a tall striker who headed it back across goal into the far top corner.

Borough enjoyed more of the possession in the later stages but could not find a way through a resolute defence and came close to conceding an own goal, not for the first time in the match, when Daniel White got down smartly to grab a low right wing cross, which had been deflected goalwards, right on the line.

Borough starting line up: Daniel White, Kieran Donnelly, Roy Parkyn, Ian Maitland, Patrick Billong, Brendan O'Brien, Ry Hardy, Melvin Thompson, Joe Seabrook, Lewis Laws, Murat Karagul Also in squad:- Dean Davis, Louis Dainty, John Cole, Ojay Bailey, Richard Lewin, Uduma Kalu, Daneil Iroegbu
