Blackpool Panthers 46 London Skolars 22

Skolars again managed to continue their record of scoring more points on the road than they do at home.

But, despite pushing Blackpool close for most of the match, the last 15 minutes saw the home side run away with the game.

Blackpool scored early on with Johnny Leather side-stepping though the defence. Skolars bounced back with a try for France ‘A’ international Jeremy Guirauld who latched on to to a quick pass from Kris Hodson.

The Panthers pulled away again with a Tom Woodcock try, but Skolars were showing some spirit. Chad Isles made a 60 metre break which was stopped just short of the line, but Guirauld added his second soon afterwards.

With the scores level on the stroke of half-time, it was agony for coach Jermaine Coleman, as Leather used his pace to score from the last move of the half.

Skolars needed an early try to stay in the game and that came from Gareth Honor who bounced off the defenders before stretching out to get the ball over the line. Paul Thorman added the conversion and the scores were level.

Tries in quick succession for Carl Forber and Rob Draper put the Lancastrian hosts into a 12 point lead, but that looked unsteady when Chad Isles chipped the ball over the defence, racing through to regather the ball and touch down for a try.

When Jeremy Guirauld latched on to a loose ball on the halfway line and raced down the wing it looked like Skolars might pull level, but he couldn’t quite escape the defence.

Blackpool regathered and tries for Damian Munro and Paul Alcock put paid to Skolars’ hopes.

A try for Martin Keavney, again in the final seconds of the half, gave the home side something of a flattering scoreline.

Skolars entertain Workington Town this Sunday with a 2pm kick-off at New River Stadium.
