Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has hailed his captain as a "fantastic character" after his vital goal.
Michael Dawson hit the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, on the day he wore the captain's armband and not Robbie Keane.
Now Spurs are third in the Premier League table, one point ahead of hated rival's Arsenal.
"What a fantastic character" gushed Redknapp afterwards.
"He always puts in 100 per cent and if he's not in the team, he's always fantastic around the dressing room. He was outstanding and both he and Bassong did well for us.
"He could have scored more and had another great chance in the first half.
Dawson struck with a half-volley on 77 minutes, which rifled into the top left corner and left Brad Friedel with no chance.
Late on, Jermain Defoe missed a chance to snatch all three points.
