E&H athletes star at London Games


Back indoors at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre for the London Games, Enfield & Haringey AC members bestrode their home track and produced a flurry of eye-catching performances.

Jordan Huggins, the UK’s leading junior sprinter at the moment won the M20 60metres in 6.77 seconds with Reece Noonan in fourth place with an excellent 6.97. Jordan Arthue was 5th in the B race with 7.10 after running a 7.09 heat and Tamouy Black won the G race in 7.54. Luke Daniels won the M20’s C 400m race with his two laps timed at 53.51.

Enfield & Haringey’s Nigerian international Akeem Ogunyemi took the A race of the senior 60m series with a dash of 6.74 following a 6.73 heat. Mark Hanson was third in the A race in 6.77 and he too ran faster in the heats with an excellent 6.72 clocking. Gavin Eastman (6.83/6.81 heat) was fourth in the A race. Other senior winners from EHAC in the 60m series were Isaiah Adekanmbi (6.95) - B race, Michael Otubambi (7.35) – I race, and Leon Tappin (7.51) - K race.

In the M17 60m races, Chijindu Udah was the fastest of the EHAC youngsters when he finished second in the A race with 7.11. In the Women’s U17 60m sprints Uzoma Nwachukwu was consistently quick in the qualifying rounds recording a PB of 7.75 and then taking the A final in 7.77; second in this final was Bianca Williams with 7.80 after running 7.77 in the heats. The M17 200m proved a happy hunting ground for the home club with Clifford Newby taking the A race in 23.64, Calvin Knight the B race with 24.11 and Calvin Akotvah the C race with 25.33.

Joe Sherry again set an indoor PB which was faster than his outdoor best when the 16-year-old finished second in the U20 800, breaking the electronic beam in 2:00.65.
