Kingsbury London Tigers 2
Haringey Borough 1
Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Borough suffered virtual last kick agony as Adam Scotcher’s close range blast crashed back off the crossbar.
Borough got off to a dreadful start when a speculative long low shot by Hardy Pinto Moreiro deceived the diving Brian Sealey with a late bobble over his outstretched left arm in only the third minute.
Borough came within inches of a quick equaliser as Lloyd Opara burst clear down the right but his cross shot just flashed wide of the far post.
A Borough side already showing several enforced changes was not helped by an early injury to Billy Haspineall, but that did bring on the very lively Fabiano Durimel, who twice looked set to score only to be crowded out on the first occasion and then denied from close range.
However, he did equalise in the 21st minute with a clinical finish from a very similar opportunity to Opara’s earlier effort.
There were an unfortunate number of injuries in a game where there was no lack of commitment but no malice either.
Clear cut chances were few and far between with Kingsbury wasting the best opportunity of the half when the ball was smashed over the bar from only a few yards out after a clever flick by Moreiro set up the chance.
The Tigers restored their lead six minutes after the interval when Aderito Manuel’s persistence enabled him to shrug off a challenge and cut in from the left to swerve a precise shot across Sealey and inside the far post.
Again it was Opara who twice had the best chances to level but his finishes were not powerful or accurate enough to beat ‘keeper Axinte Valentin.
A refusal to comply with managerial instructions led to the substitution of Durimel and a consequent reduction in Borough’s attacking outlets.
With Borough needing an equaliser it was surprising that Kingsbury largely controlled the game in its closing stages and it was not until deep into injury time that Borough looked certain to score. Andreas Loizou launched a free kick forward from the half way line and Bosun Adebaki headed it down only for Adam Scotcher’s powerful drive to crash against the bar.
With Kentish Town closing the gap to four points with their win over Hanwell Town it was a rather bad day at the office.
