London Skolars head coach Joe Mbu nominated for Championship 1 Coach of the Year

London Skolars head coach Joe Mbu has said he is "honoured and flattered" to be nominated for the Championship 1 Coach of the Year award.

Mbu, and the other two nominees, will learn their fate at the Championship Awards dinner, which takes place in Leeds on Tuesday, September 25.

Also in the frame for the award are Doncaster head coach Tony Miller and Clive Griffith of North Wales Crusaders.

The nomination has been received on the back of a season that saw Skolars win seven and draw one of their 18 Championship 1 fixtures. The club narrowly failed to win a place in the play-offs, being pipped to sixth place by Oldham by just two points.

This year was Mbu's second season as Skolars head coach and the team have grown and improved under his stewardship, winning plaudits for their performances from coaches and journalists alike.

On hearing the news of his nomination, Mbu said: “I’m honoured and flattered to have received this nomination.

"Everyone has worked hard this year to improve on the previous year’s performance and the challenge now is to keep the momentum going into next season.

I think we were unfortunate not to make the play-offs but all eyes are now on next season and the goal will be promotion.”
