Haringey Borough ease to Berkhamsted win

Haringey Borough earned a comprehensive 4-1 win at Berkhamsted in the South Midlands Premier Division on Tuesday night.

The visitors took the lead in the 21st minute in somewhat unusual circumstances as the referee blew for a foul leading to complaints from Boro players for being denied an advantage.

It did not matter though as Dean Fenton’s well flighted free-kick was firmly headed home by Roland Namquita.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as another set piece led to a frantic scramble in the home goalmouth and Christopher Benjamin got the final touch as it was forced over the line.

The first half scoring was completed in the 34th minute when Patou Katshenge headed home a left wing corner from a few yards out. Boro goalkeeper Erbil Bozkurt made an exceptional and vital block to beat away a fierce low drive.

But the fourth Boro goal after 75 minutes put the result beyond any reasonable doubt.

Berkhamsted’s attempt to take a quick free-kick backfired on them as Darrell Cox intercepted the ball. His shot was blocked but it fell conveniently for Dewayne Clarke to drive home.

Almost straight away, Berkhamsted reduced the arrears when Josh Chamberlain’s free-kick from just outside the area took an awkward deflection and looped just inside the post.

There never seemed any real danger of a successful comeback from the home side as Haringey moved up to sixth in the table.
