Tottenham launched a late night deadline day bid for Corinthians playmaker Alexandre Pato but were left disappointed when it was rejected, according to reports.

South American correspondent football correspondent Tim Vickery told TalkSport that Corinthians confirmed the bid but were less than impressed with the low valuation the north London club put up for him.

“Spurs did not even match what Corinthians paid for him, and they rejected it out of hand,” he said.

Pato shot to fame during his six seasons with Italian giants AC Milan whom he played for 117 times, scoring an impressive 51 times.

A series of injuries resulting in a drop of form saw him return to his native Brazil in January for an estimated €15 million.
