Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is in advanced talks with Tottenham Hotspur, according to a number of reports.

The 42-year-old was the first name to be linked with replacing Tim Sherwood at White Hart Lane and was the bookmakers' favourite early on.

However, Frank de Boer's claim Spurs had approached him saw Pochettino's name drop out of the picture.

It is now understood Pochettino, whose only previous management experience before taking the Saints job was with Espanyol, will succeed Sherwood at White Hart Lane after holding advanced talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Pochettino replaced Nigel Adkins at St Mary's Stadium last January and has since guided the south coast outfit away from the relegation zone and into eighth place in the Premier League.

As well as moving Southampton up the Premier League standings, Pochettino has cultivated an attractive style of play and utilised the club's academy to great success, bringing through the likes of Callum Chambers, James Ward-Prowse and Sam Gallagher.
