Former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has revealed he turned down the West Bromwich Albion job.

Sherwood, 45, left White Hart Lane on May 13 after taking over in December 2013 and has since been succeeded by former Southampton boss, Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Spurs and Norwich City midfielder told talkSPORT he rejected the Baggies job because there were a ‘couple of ingredients missing’.

He explained: “It is a fantastic club and it looked on the outside like it might be a perfect fit for me, but unfortunately we couldn't agree for me to move forward.

“Discussions were going very, very well,” he continued. “But, in the end, I decided when we prolonged the discussions that it wasn't right for me.”

Talking about his future, Sherwood said he was confident of his ability to manage in the Premier League.

“I know my worth and I just want to wait for the right opportunity,” he said. “I am sure it will come along.”

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End manager, Alan Irvine was appointed as the new head coach at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
