Haringey Borough clinched a record breaking 10-1 win over Enfield 1893 as they surged to the top of the Essex Senior League.

Boro’s thrashing set a new league record of 18 consecutive wins while Walid Matata equalled the scoring record of seven goals.

It was also the first time the side reached double figures since the merger of Wood Green Town and Edmonton in the mid 1970s.

Tom Loizou’s side opened the scoring after ten minutes through Matata and he quickly added a second.

Enfield pulled one back through Marvin Samuel but Matata completed his hat-trick before half-time.

Matata curled home the fourth after the restart before Anthony McDonald scored with a clinical finish.

Matata went on to claim his double hat-trick and added a seventh in a remarkable game from a 25-yard free-kick.

Incredibly, his afternoon finished with 20 minutes remaining but there was still time for Dean Fenton to add a late brace.

Boro will look to extend their winning run this weekend when they travel to Waltham Forest.
