Haringey Borough’s winning streak came to a halt at 21 games on Saturday with a 1-0 loss against the unbeaten FC Romania.

The game’s only goal came in the 21st minute via Sorin Buciu’s close-range effort. The hosts wasted a number of gilt-edged opportunities and could not make their pressure pay by snatching an equaliser - the first time they have failed to win in the league since drawing 0-0 at Southend Manor in March.

Borough remain top of the Essex Senior League still, though, after returning to winning ways with a resounding 5-1 home win over Basildon United on Tuesday evening.

Walid Matata converted a penalty after three minutes and Darrell Cox added a second a few minutes later to put the hosts 2-0 up.

Even the 20th-minute dismissal of Dean Fenton could not upset Borough’s momentum, with Cox completing his hat-trick and Rakim Richards also chipping in for Tom Loizou’s side.
