Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is on Roy Hodgson's England radar, despite missing out on a first senior call-up.

Club-mate Andros Townsend has been included in Hodgson's 26-man squad for a 2016 European Championships qualifier against Slovenia and a friendly against Scotland at Celtic Park in the next fortnight.

Striker Kane has excelled for Spurs this term, scoring eight goals in all competitions, but has had to settle for a place in the Under-21s once more.

West Bromwich Albion youngster Saido Berahino has been handed his first senior England call-up and Hodgson says Kane could well follow suit.

"Like Saido, if Harry Kane continues to do well, it won't be long before he is knocking on the door for a senior call-up," explained Hodgson.

Winger Townsend has won five full England caps - scoring twice - since making his debut for the Three Lions last year.

Kane is however part of Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad for their friendly double-header against Portugal and France in preparation for next year's Under-21 European Championships.

The Enfield-born frontman has scored six goals for Southgate's six in just nine outings.

England face Slovenia in a 2016 European Championships qualifier on Saturday, November 15, before taking on Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday, November 18.

Alex Pritchard, currently on loan at Brentford, and Tom Carroll, currently on loan at Swansea City, also make Southgate's squad.

The Under-21s host Portugual at Turf Moor on Thursday, November 13, before travelling to Brittany to face France on Monday, November 17.
