Erik Lamela bagged his first Premier League goal with a sumptuous strike to overcome Burnley 2-1.

Harry Kane had given Spurs the lead with a header from close range before Ashley Barnes equalised with a delightful curling effort.

Yet it was the Argentine who stole the show with a fantastic strike in the first half which typified his impressive performance.

The result means that Spurs climb to sixth in the Premier League table.

Spurs made one change from their last minute victory at the Liberty Stadium last week with Nacer Chadli replacing Roberto Soldado.

Kane has won plaudits for his innovative and quick thinking play and it was his free-kick which led to the opener on 21 minutes.

Following a handball by Ben Shackell, Kane took a quick free-kick which was picked up by Chadli on the wing – he found Kane with a whipped cross and the English forward could not miss.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche was furious as Kane’s quick free-kick was passed to Christian Eriksen who was in an offside position.

Yet the Danish midfielder did not go to touch the ball, leaving it for the overlapping Nacer Chadli.

The visitors had come into the game on a run of form and were rewarded for their hard-working style six minutes after Kane’s opener.

Goerge Boyd played in Ashley Barnes on the edge of the box who was given to time to unleash a beautiful curling effort to beat Hugo Lloris.

A jinking run from Lamela almost resulted in a quick response from Spurs but Kane fluffed his lines, missing his shot entirely and Eirksen fired over.

Goals were aplenty in the first half and it was another fine strike that saw the home side re-take the lead.

Lamela had waited a long time for his first Premier League goal and what a goal it was as he cut onto his left foot on the edge of the box and curled his shot beyond Heaton.

Eriksen was pulling the strings once more in an action packed first half. His reverse pass found Mason who fired just over.

Burnely were starting the find gaps in the Spurs back line during the second half with Lloris making three sharp saves to deny Danny Ings in the first then minutes.

Spurs were not as slick as they were in the first 45 minutes with several passes going astray.

Dean Marney almost snuck in a free-kick against his former club but Lloris got down well to claw away his strike.

But Spurs looked comfortable despite pressure from the visitors and registered back-to-back wins in the league for the third time this season.
