Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pocettino has described Erik Lamela as a ‘big talent’ after scoring the winner against Burnley.

Lamela netted his first Premier League goal in 26 appearances with a fine effort as Spurs continued their good form.

Harry Kane also scored his 14th goal of the season as they overcame Burnley 2-1.

Pochettino said: “He is very happy and he helped the team to get three points. It is very important for the player, Erik is still young, he have a big talent is first season was difficult in England.

“This season it was not easy at the start but he needs time and today was great for him. He needs to build his confidence and be more strong.”

Lamela struggled to settle last season after being bought for £30million from Roma.

However the Spurs boss believes it is difficult for players to adapt to the English culture and the midfielder needs time to match his price tag.

He said: “The last season was difficult for him, he did not play to much, it is a different culture and language change you need time to adapt.

“He is very strong and will keep going.

“I think it is not only me who give him the tools for improvement, it is the club to enable him to work in the best facilities.”

Spurs registered their third win in six days and the Spurs boss was delighted with his side’s display this afternoon.

He said: “We are happy and very pleased, three wins in six days in a hard period I am very pleased.”

Tottenham now face a tricky Christmas period as they face Manchester United and Chelsea at home after travelling to Leicester on Boxing Day.
