Benoit Assou-Ekotto has declared his “freedom” after being released by Tottenham Hotspur having not played for the club for 20 months.
The full-back, 30, has had his £40,000-a-week contract cancelled after nine years at Spurs and had not played for the club since May 2013.
He had been on loan at Queens Park Rangers last term, helping Harry Redknapp's side into the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
Assou-Ekotto took to Instagram to post an image of the famous line from Braveheart ‘Freedom’ and proceeded to do the same on Twitter with a separate picture.

The 24-timed capped Cameroon international, signed during Martin Jol’s tenure from Lens, famously stated, “I play for the money. Football is not my passion."
