Haringey Borough remain six points clear at the top of the Essex Premier Division after a goalless draw at closest challengers Barking on Tuesday night.

Barking’s threat came mostly from set pieces as Tom Loizou’s side were forced to repel a succession of corners and free kicks from the hosts.

No really gilt edged chances were created by either team but Ashley Harris pulled off two vital second half saves for the visitors from close range.

When Boro found space up front late on as Barking pressed forward, a couple of promising half chances were wasted without testing the home goalkeeper. Barking ended the contest more disappointed as they were unable to gain any ground on the league leaders.

It means the Blues are still six points back with an inferior goal difference having played one game.

Boro had to settle for a point which ended their exceptional run of 14 consecutive league wins.

Haringey will be hoping to attract a bumper crowd tomorrow when they host Takeley.

The club are offering free entry to the game at Coles Park as they look to receive more backing at their matches during the remainder of the season as they bid to win promotion.

Haringey follow up this match by paying a flying visit to Stansted in the league on Tuesday evening.
