Enfield and Haringey Athletics Club walker Callum Wilkinson smashed the British Under-20 one-mile walk record – which had stood for 33 years – on Sunday.
Wilkinson was competing at the Eastern Indoor Championships, which were staged at Lee Valley, and he crossed the line in 6.03.78 to secure victory ahead of a small field.
The previous record was held by Leicester’s Phil Vesty, who went on to compete in the Olympic Games.
His time of 6.09.20 was comfortably overcome by Wilkinson.
