Haringey Borough remain just behind leaders Barking in the Essex Premier Division title race after a late 1-0 win over Enfield 1893.

The hosts edged to a home win which leaves them one point behind Barking although Boro have four games in hand over them.

Haringey were far from convincing during Saturday’s game against an Enfield side struggling in 15th place.

The visitors played more than 70 minutes with ten men after an early red card but they still proved awkward opponents for Haringey.

It looked like it was going to be a frustrating afternoon for the title challengers but they struck the winner with only seconds remaining in normal time.

Substitute defender Rakim Richards headed in Daniel Aristidou’s corner to snatch a dramatic victory for Haringey at the death.

Boro eased to a 3-0 home win over Sawbridgeworth Town on Wednesday night in the Gordon Brasted Trophy.

The hosts opened the scoring after just four minutes through a header from Jorge Sambu.

It was 2-0 shortly after the second half got underway through an effort from Florin Pelecaci.

Haringey rounded off the victory with a third goal by Jon Constant to seal their place in the next round.

Boro travel to third-placed FC Romania on Saturday. Haringey have a very healthy cushion over their opponents sitting 15 points clear of them with five games in hand.
