Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen was foiled by former teammate Gareth Bale as Belgium were beaten 1-0 by Wales in Cardiff.

The Real Madrid winger capitalised on a Radja Nainggolan mistake to score the game’s only goal as Vertonghen completed 90 minutes for Belgium.

Spurs duo Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli were unused substitutes in the Euro 2016 qualifying game as Wales put themselves into pole position to progress.

They now sit top of Group B, with Belgium three points behind in second. The winners and runners-up of each group automatically qualify for next summer’s tournament.

Bale was making his 50th appearance for his country and has now notched 17 times for the Dragons.
