Haringey student Amelia Chan took top honours for the third year in a row at the Jack Petchey London Schools’ individual table tennis finals.

In the girls’ Under-13 category Chan beat Feiyang Wang 3-0 (11-8 11-6 15-13) at the University of East London’s SportsDock on Saturday.

The 12-year-old Channing School pupil took the title for the third year running, stepping up from Under-11 level.

She dropped a set in the semi-finals to Hannah Buckley and was pushed by Wang in the final, taking the third 15-13 to seal her triumph.

Chan said: “I like this competition. It feels good and I’m very proud of myself. It was harder this year because when you grow older you have to play new players who you don’t know.”

The title came at the end of a the competition which featured 78 players from 38 London schools battling to become champions in the age categories ranging from Under-11 up to Under-19.

All the players had fought through regional competitions earlier this year to compete in the final.
