Former Tottenham Hotspur star Teddy Sheringham insists Harry Kane’s decision to ignore Manchester United’s interest in him as the right one.

The 22-year-old shot to prominence last season, netting 31 goals in 51 appearances, and as a result has attracted the attention of Manchester United.

Reds boss Louis van Gaal has openly stated his admiration for the player and rumours even suggest that the club’s captain, Wayne Rooney, has even urged the club to approach the Spurs striker.

However, Sheringham has described Kane’s decision to stay at White Hart Lane as “sensible”.

“He’s at where he’s at and that’s a very sensible decision to take at the moment,” the current Stevenage boss told 888sport.com. “He should be honoured still to play for Tottenham – and the way he speaks he is.

“He’s loving every minute of it so he hasn’t got eyes for anyone else. I don’t think he’s a flash in the pan or a one-season wonder.

"I really think he’s the real deal and wants to learn and if it doesn’t come as easy for him as last year he’ll find a way to do it in other ways.”
