Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he will have to add another striker after Spurs drew a blank at Manchester United on the opening day.

Spurs' need for another striker became all the more apparent as they lost 1-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday in the first game of the new Premier League season.

Last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year Harry Kane is the only man available for Pochettino, leaving the Argentine with no choice but to bring at least one striker before the transfer window closes in just over three weeks' time.

With Emmanuel Adebayor heavily linked with a move to join former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa and Roberto Soldado, who has been subject of interest from Villarreal, Pochettino has no alternative but to sign quickly and take the pressure off main man Kane.

Kane has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer but the 21-year-old looks almost certain to stay and build on his magnificent breakthrough season.

Tottenham Independent:

Spurs have been heavily linked with West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino and despite receiving no bids, the Baggies are understood to be holding out for £25 million.

And speaking after Saturday's defeat, Pochettino was asked if he would look to dip into the market.

The former Southampton boss replied: “We have our target, I think in the next few days maybe something will happen.”

One player Pochettino will have his eye on his Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin.

The 26-year-old has started the season with Rangers but looks almost certain to leave the club with a £15 million price tag being put on the England striker's head. Spurs will have to see off interest from Newcastle United and Leicester City if they want to get their man, though.
