Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has wished teammate Roberto Soldado good luck with the striker's move to Villarreal looks imminent.

The Argentine quickly took down the tweet that read: “I enjoyed these two years that we share, I wish you well in your new club!! Good luck my friend!!”

Soldado was seen at Gatwick Airport early this morning and the Spanish international confirmed he was not at Spurs training because he was flying to Spain in order to join Villarreal.

The 30-year-old looks set to end his nightmare spell at Spurs where he has scored just 16 goals in 76 appearances since signing from Valencia in 2013, for £25 million.

The Spaniard was left out of the squad for pre-season trips to the USA and Munich as well as Saturday’s league opener at Manchester United. Tottenham had claimed he was injured.

Reports suggested the former Real Madrid forward has been in talks with the Spanish club for a while and a deal was agreed weeks ago, with the move now going aheas as Lyon striker Clinton N’Jie is close to completing his move to White Hart Lane.

However, Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino had stated Soldado was in his plans when asked.

"I cannot confirm anything. Today Roberto Soldado is our player and he is in our plans," Pochettino said last week.
