Spurs to face Europa League rivals

SPURS can end the challenge of one of their Europa League rivals this weekend.

Manchester City, like Tottenham, still have hopes of finishing in the coveted seventh position in the Premier League, which would be enough to earn a place in the revamped Uefa Cup tournament next season.

The two sides clash at White Hart Lane on Saturday, in what is Spurs' final home match of the campaign.

The Sky Blues are one point behind the Lilywhites.

Fulham remain in the driving seat, two points ahead of Harry Redknapp's troops, while West Ham United, who are level on points with Tottenham, are also still in the running with just two games to go.

Spurs have a daunting final-day trip to Liverpool to come, so they know they cannot afford to slip up this weekend.

City are poor travellers, while Spurs have not lost on home soil since the end of November, so there is no doubt the hosts will start as firm favourites.

Of course, the Lilywhites must also hope Fulham slip up. The Cottagers travel to relegation-threatened Newcastle United, who still have everything to play for.

The Hammers go to Everton, who held Tottenham to a goalless draw on Saturday.

Redknapp said: "I thought it was a fair result. There were not a lot of chances for both sides, neither keeper had to pull off any world-class saves."

It is an exciting finale to the season and, considering the start Tottenham made under former boss Juande Ramos, something few fans were exepecting. And it is starting to look quite likely that the battle for Europe will go down to the very last day.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp played a new 5-3-2 system in Saturday's goalless draw at Everton, with Vedran Corluka, above, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate lining up in central defence. "In the first half I thought it worked well," Redknapp said.
