The penalty hex which hangs over Spurs resisted a new spot-kick taker when Tom Huddlestone squandered the chance to dump Bolton Wanderers out of the FA Cup, on Sunday.
Jussi Jaaskelainen saved his 71st minute effort, much to the relief of Sam Ricketts who had handled the ball in his own area.
That was penalty miss number four in five attempts for Spurs.
Spurs' deputy boss Joe Jordon reflected afterwards: "We have not been too lucky with penalties.
"But I think when a penalty is saved you have to give credit to the goalkeeper."
Bolton took the lead on 34 minutes when Kevin Davies rounded off a slick bout of passing by the hosts at the Reebok Stadium, as they dominated the first half.
Spurs improved after the break and got the break-through when hitman jermain Defoe levelled with a deflected shot on 61 minutes.
