Tottenham target Roberto Soldado has expressed his admiration of Europe's premier competition and wants to help Valencia improve their league position.

As revealed by the Enfield Independent last week Tottenham had hoped to resurrect a move in January for the Spanish hitman after failing with a last-minute bid in the summer.

But Soldado may have put the brakes on any approach from north London as he emphasised how much he enjoys playing in the Champions League.

"The Champions League is the optimum competition, the most beautiful you can play in," Soldado told Uefa.com.

"You feel the importance because every weekend in your domestic championship, it's what you strive for. You're defending the colours of your team against all of Europe.

"I just hope the ratio of goals I get in the Champions League stays the same and that they mean something important for the team.

"Valencia have ambition. We're a young team that intend to win important things and I'll be doing my best to make sure that happens."

Spurs may draw encouragement though from Valencia's poor start to the league which sees them lying in 10th position, six places off the Champions League spots.

Valencia beat Real Zaragoza 2-0 on Saturday to record their second victory of the season so far.
