SPURS BLOG: The excitement is mounting as third place could be ours

By James Ranger »

THE snow has melted in Lancashire's answer to Las Vegas in time for a big away game for Spurs this evening.

If we overcome Blackpool we will find ourselves in the dizzying heights of third place, leapfrogging the league's richest team in the process.

Moneybags City have stuttered of late while our league form has been fairly consistent, meaning we could add to our excellent run in Europe by cementing our position in the qualifying spots.

You know, in case the unthinkable happens and we don't actually win the Champions League.

The Tangerines are poised precariously above the drop zone in 16th but everyone knows that Ian Holloway's men are capable of springing the odd surprise, especially if danger men Charlie Adam and DJ Campbell – who have ten in the league between them – are firing.

Unfortunately Rafael van der Vaart will play no part in the trip to Bloomfield Road after aggravating a calf injury in our glorious win against AC Milan last week, while defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Vedran Corluka picked up knocks at the San Siro.

It was wonderful to see Woodie back in the mix against the Italians after 15 months on the sidelines.

Here's hoping this latest lay-off is a bit shorter than the last, to say the least.
