SPURS BLOG: Believe, for we can cut the Galacticos down to size

By James Ranger »

AT least we didn't get Barcelona.

Just about every Spurs fan across the planet was praying to their respective gods that we weren't matched up with the mighty Catalans in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but it is now confirmed we'll face probably the second-most formidable team in the hat.

Having said that, Real Madrid are not the same kind of animal as Barcelona and lack one distinct quality which their arch-rivals have in spades: teamwork.

Pep Guardiola's men work as a single unit and unlock team with fluid passing. In contrast, Jose Mourinho's men are arguably more reliant on individual skill to score goals.

Of course, any side controlled by The Great One will be hard to unlock and they possess a potent strikeforce due in no small part to the contribution of a certain other Portuguese.

But they are not Barca. And, joshing aside, I genuinely believe we stand a chance over the two legs.

We thumped the reigning champions Inter Milan at home after all and really-not-that-secret-any-more weapon Gareth Bale is regaining full fitness with each passing day.

Most tantalisingly at all, the prospect of current crock Rafael van der Vaart lining up against the team which never fully realise the scope of his talent is truly mouth-watering.

Bring them on, I say.

Back down to earth now and this weekend presents a great opportunity to get our league season back on track and maintain momentum towards finishing in the top four again this year.

Y'know, if we don't win the Champions League and everything.

West Ham arrive at the Lane following a loss away to Stoke in the FA Cup but they're now within a whisker of taking themselves out of the drop zone.

Spurs have only taken a solitary point from the last six in the league but I'd argue the match is ours to lose, and I desperately hope the lads gain some revenge for the 1-0 loss we suffered at the Boleyn Ground earlier this season.

Pub lunch, a few jars, and a thoroughly one-sided win for the Lillywhites. Who's with me?
