SPURS BLOG: Klose and Klose to a goal-scoring solution? Nein

By James Ranger »

DOMESTIC action returns this weekend after one of the most pointless but, oddly, most entertaining England games in recent memory.

After Ghana's well-earned draw at Wembley last night attention can now turn to Saturday's clash with Wigan.

At this stage of the season every match could arguably be described as crucial, especially given how tight the top five or six places are at the moment.

Our injury-afflicted side will have to stay solid at the back and take its chances going forward if we're to earn a much-needed win.

Such a result would put us within one point of Moneybags City and in prime position to leapfrog them if they slip up.

And I still maintain the bottom will fall out of their platinum-lined, diamond-encrusted title challenge within the next few weeks.

Now, don't get me wrong – Wigan are utter bobbins. But we're away from home and the fact that we've taken two points from a possible nine in the last three league games shows that we've got some work to do to make sure we're mixing it up with the big boys of the Champions League next year.

Also today, rumour has it that we are closing in on a deal to bring Miroslav Klose to White Hart Lane.

On the face of it, the German forward's pedigree is undeniable: 14 World Cup goals (a tally only one behind Ronaldo), and 61 strikes in 104 caps for his country.

However, his club record is less impressive than all that, except for the 2005-06 season when he put away 25 in 26 games for Werder Bremen.

And, at 32, he might not yet be ready for the retirement home but he's hardly a long-term solution to our front-line problems.

So, in conclusion...next!
