A 29-YEAR-OLD man is being held by police over the murder of Tottenham man Wayne Powell who was gunned down on July 5.

The suspect was arrested last night and is in custody at an east London police station.

The arrest follows a shooting in Higham Station Avenue, in south Chingford.

Mr Powell, 39, was discovered suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Royal London Hospital but was pronounced dead.

A post mortem gave the cause of death as gunshot wounds.

Police believe Mr Powell was sitting in his black BMW when a lone gunman approached the vehicle.

The Seven Sisters train station worker got out of car to escape but was shot.

Detective Chief Inspector John Crossley, of the Met's Trident unit, said: "We are looking for a lone gunman who was wearing dark clothing.

"The suspect is believed to have left the scene of the shooting along a footpath in the direction of Coningsby Gardens, and I would implore anyone who believes they have information that could help this investigation to speak to police."
