Inspirational teachers, students, schools and community groups honoured at Haringey's Outstanding for All awards

A dance troupe, brass band and school choir provided entertainment at an awards ceremony which honoured the borough’s best teachers, students, schools and community groups.

The Outstanding for All awards, which took place on Tuesday night at Alexandra Palace, showcased the Haringey’s education successes.

Haringey Young Musicians, St Mary’s CE Junior School choir and Park View dancers performed for the audience as the winners of the ten award categories were read out.

The winners included Amy Garrard, of Hornsey Girls School, who won the outstanding school prefect award.

Year six pupil Selin Beyzat, Risley Avenue Primary, took homes the overcoming adversity award for excelling at school despite being blind from birth.

Harry Smithson, of Fortismere School, won the art and culture award for his art work and St Ann's Church was picked as the best community organisation.

Park View school was declared the most inclusive school for its work to tackle bullying based on sexuality and Shirley Welton was awarded for her contribution to early years education.

Northumberland Park Community School won the Most Sustainable School award and teacher Vinsia McQueen, of Park View, won a Lifetime Achievement award for the 28 years of service she has given the school.

Winners were nominated by members of the public and picked by a panel of judges selected by Haringey Borough Council.

The awards ceremony was one of the key recommendations of the Outstanding for All report by Haringey’s Education Commission which was published earlier this year.
